hey all, i'm looking to get in touch with the person who wrote/published the "no boys allowed" zine which was passed out at bikebike in san francisco. it was part of one of the oppression and gender identity issues workshops. we're looking to start a women's night here at community cycles, and i'd like to scan my copy as a pdf and email it to potential volunteers, as well as make some copies to have in the shop... if you're on the list, or if you know the person who wrote it (her name escapes me), please get in touch with me off list... thanks! josh. community cycles boulder

Hey folks, it's probably not a new idea but especially with upcoming information about Bike!Bike! I've been toying with the idea of starting a no-reply mailing list. There's a lot of logistics that we'd have to get worked out and it's something that I scarcely have time to administer but I wanted to get a general room temperature on this. One idea that I had that might help us smooth out some other issues as well was to replace the content on bikecollectives.org with a sign up form for bike collectives (not touching the wiki of course). Bike collectives would sign up as an organization giving their general email address and location and possibly a few other details. We could talk about having a few administrators that could send out notices, likely at most one a month although probably much more rarely than that and in addition we could use the information to know more about our community at large. This would also open up the possibility of putting bikecollectives.org to better use. My main concern is that, due to the nature of the think tank (long discussions, off-topic discussions, in-fighting) we are keeping many organizations in the dark about information that we would like them to know about. I'd appreciate any feedback and possibly volunteers! Thanks!.godwin

Hi Everyone, My name is Shah Mohamed. Some of you know me by some other child hood name or nick name. We have all met and hung-out, spent time together sharing an experience or two and in the larger context, shared life. I have great respect and admiration for you all. We all have unique gifts and talents and I hope that every one of you is engaging your talents and gifts living life close to its limits. This is the first time I am sending out an email of this kind. I don't normally don't do this but I need your help. I have for the past year been working at an organization that I believe in. I do work that is rewarding and meaningful to me and from what I can tell is very meaningful to the people I touch. I run a small social enterprise and community space named Bike Works based out of a site called the Evergreen Brick Works<http://ebw.evergreen.ca>. We are an environmental community center. A place where people can gather and explore the ideas and practices of what it means to live more sustainably. Evergreen is a National not for profit charitable organization that helps make cities more livable. We do this using a methodology that focus on Nature, Culture and Community. Acting both onsite at the Evergreen Brick Works<http://ebw.evergreen.ca> and across the country in communities big and small we are helping to build a brighter future based in sustainable and healthy practices. Info and communication about bike projects doesn't seem to flow very well across this border, so I didn't know how many of you had heard of this. I guess it doesn't normally happen in North America, so if you can make it this year, it might be the last year it's here for a while. i figured some of you might be interested in this, or would know people who are. be safe! josh. Hi Jonathan, Carolyn forwarded this over to me, since she thought this sounded like a membership question. It's been a while since you and I have connected-hope you are doing well. The Advocacy Advance Program was created to draw down federal funding to be spent on biking and walking, so it would be crucial to ensure that an application addresses drawing down federal funding. Any Alliance and League member is welcomed to apply for such funding. With the increasing number of community bike shops (or like organizations) playing an advocacy role in their community, there is definite potential in this area. I don't personally handle the Advocacy Advance Program and Grants, but I have copied Brighid O'Keane, our Advocacy Advance Program Manager, on this email so that you and her can connect to discuss further. I would also like to add that the Alliance for Biking & Walking, in response to member requests from community bikeshops and like organizations, is also investigating other opportunities of better ways to serve such organizations. community bike shops need bikable roads

Fellow community shops, We have been working on a good bikable community since our inception in 1996. We could not in good conscious work on getting more people on bikes without working on city design and street issues. We have had success: changing 4-lane roads to 3-lane roads and putting in bike lanes in the reclaimed space, getting _single lane_ roundabouts instead of stop lights, narrowing 12' travel lanes to 10' which often helps get in bike lanes, changing parking lanes to bike lanes, connecting urban trails and increasing transit for instance. Current projects include getting a downtown 'piazza' or car-free plaza, switching asphalt to pine resin or other alternative for bike walk trails, and- the hardest- working to stop a couple major roadway expansions and instead going with bike/walk/transit solutions.
