no boys allowed zine from bikebike?

hey all, i'm looking to get in touch with the person who wrote/published the "no boys allowed" zine which was passed out at bikebike in san francisco. it was part of one of the oppression and gender identity issues workshops. we're looking to start a women's night here at community cycles, and i'd like to scan my copy as a pdf and email it to potential volunteers, as well as make some copies to have in the shop... if you're on the list, or if you know the person who wrote it (her name escapes me), please get in touch with me off list... thanks! josh. community cycles boulder

Abandoned Bike Collection partnerships with campuses and municipalities

Are there any groups out there with strong partnerships with local municipalities or campuses to collect abandoned bicycles? I know the Recyclery (Chicago) and many other groups certainly pick up donations from police departments and the like, but we have a number of volunteers and a campus environmental group working on setting up a structured collection program and are looking for ways to proceed. Do you, for example, have a specific notice or flyer you attach to bikes? We are thinking of something that says "hello, this bike looks abandoned. if it is yours, you can fix it up at the recyclery. Otherwise it will be removed..." Anyhow, just wondering if anyone has already done this. Thanks for your help! Erik @ The Recyclery (Chicago)

Gah. Hit the wrong key and my incomplete message went out... South America and Asia are definitely under represented. Does anyone know of or have contacts in these areas? I remember someone at San Francisco having done some kind of bike work in Nepal, I believe. Also, if you haven't checked it out yet, please do. It's a tremendous help for those organizing and communicating with groups for things like regional bikebikes and the international BikeBikes. There have been a lot of additions since many of you checked in and updated your listing. There's more columns, including mission statement, and one I just added, the process for your volunteers. Also, some of you may not have noticed the second page. It's a chart that allows people to post a question or issue they're facing in the first row, and then others can address it. So far us and Salt Lake City are the only groups to have posted there. I have high hopes for that page. If you don't have access to the spreadsheet, or want to check it out, please let me know. It's a simple google spreadsheet right now. You DO NOT need a google account to access it. Thanks everyone! Hey Everyone, It's something we're playing around with at Community Cycles, in an effort to better plug new volunteers into jobs that match their ability level and interest, and minimize our commitment to and investment in those who are less committed to us from the get go. I'd be interested in conversing off list with anyone out there who does do interviews with new volunteers, what questions are asked, what is done with notes from the interview, and your experiences with the process. Hey, I had drafted an email about travel plans, but decided to put off sending it until closer to the date. Here is some pertinent information: Flying to Buffalo and then taking another form of transit to Toronto will be the best and cheapest way, if you have to take a plane. This is what we did to get to San Fransisco last year! There are potentially VERY cheap megabus (http://www.megabus.com/us/) and greyhound (www.greyhound.com) busses. the earlier you book the cheaper it will be. these will take you right into the city. Some Greyhound routes are express (Toronto to NY) and can be as cheap as $2 each way if you find a deal. you can also take the train, but bare in mind you may have to switch trains when it goes from amtrak to viarail (http://www.viarail.ca/en) crossing the border. Driving is about 90 minutes from Buffalo to Toronto and taking the bus it is 2-3hours, factoring in the border crossing. If you do fly into toronto, Pearson International Airport is the largest one and serves all major airlines. It is accessible by transit (a bus takes you directly to the end of the subway line which then takes you into the city), or if you want you could put your bike together and bike in from there - though you have to cross some highway, so it may not be for the faint of heart. We can get the best recommended cycling route for anyone interested in doing that. Toronto Island Airport is right in the harbour on Lake Ontario. They are only serviced by Porter Airlines (http://www.flyporter.com), who fly to a few major cities including Boston, Chicago and New York. They sometimes have competitive rates, and are very accessible to the core of the city. Hope that helps.
