Here's ours. Tempe is a high theft environment, so everything is welded on. We've never been able to keep a pump out there for more than two weeks (even the bike fixtation high security one). Hey y'all, I'm working on a collaboration between an NYC community garden and the Mechanical Gardens Bike Co-op to start a bike repair outpost in a shipping container. Before we get started on building the shop, we'll be making some pedal powered gardening tools, and an outdoor repair station. *Do you have an outdoor repair station* for open-access community use at your shop?* If so, please send me a photo and I'll compile them into a shared folder :) *Just to be clear, I'm not looking for an off-the-shelf solution, but something creative you or someone else made. Hello! I work at a community bike coop in Moncton, New Brunswick. We are looking at visually impactful ways of addressing subtle gender bias in our shop. I am sure we are not the only shop that has to work on conveying women's equal competence to the general public in a bike shop setting! Hello all, We're close to launching a new bicycle co-operative at York University, Toronto, ON, Canada! I had some requests to ask the community: 1. I would like to connect with the managers of other University/college campus based bicycle co-ops to discuss practices and business models, go over past decisions made to get to where they are now. 2. Are there any tool bench designs that are favorites? I really like the tool benches @ Charlie's in Toronto, but would like to see other examples of well thought out tool benches. 3. Could we look at examples of shop layouts? Has any co-operative made a floor-map with the furnishings placement on it? We have plans as well to share! 3. Do creature comforts matter? I wanted to be double sure. Normally I would not hesitate myself to say A/C is definitely not needed at first, but for context we are moving from a hidden closet in terms of operations into a 1500+ sq ft. new storefront. We have big glass windows that face east, which means that by 10 am the place is a broiler. Installing an A/C system feels like the right thing to do.... As well I have a whole bunch of photos of our space and shop logo to share to anyone interested! Best, Parag

Bike Collective VS. Simply giving away bikes

Alright friends, I am reaching out for some resources.. I have a meeting soon with a guy who has an organization which gives away bikes. "Second Chance Bikes" Now, I don't disagree with giving people bikes... but I think the bike collective model (like earn-a-bike) is more empowering and sustainable long-term. And of course encourages safer riding, all while building community... Got any resources (or data) that can help support my/our position? I am a bit nervous as my meeting is with an older white male and I'm a younger female. He's already mansplained me once before. Bikes!
