The Alliance for Biking & Walking is now accepting nominations for our annual Advocacy Awards! The deadline is December 18th. Established in 2009, our awards program honors those who show exceptional leadership in advancing the bicycle and pedestrian movement. Categories for 2012 include: Advocate of the Year Advocacy Organization of the Year Business Advocate of the Year Winning Campaign of the Year Susie Stephens Joyful Enthusiasm Award Anyone can make a nomination — you don’t have to be part of an Alliance member organization — and the quick, easy, online submission form takes just a few minutes. Nominations are evaluated by Alliance staff, board and advocacy organization representatives, and the winners get some high-profile recognition. Re-purposing parts

Manufacturers throw out, literally, tons of usable and un-usable bike parts that are considered obsolete or blemished. Since they have distributors / shops that buy and sell those parts, it makes little business sense to give them to a non-profit and potentially risk them being re-sold, warrantied a second time, or something else that might upset a paying distributor / shop. The question is, is there much risk if the parts are re-purposed (think Resource Revival) into things like Art. Attendance Tracking

Hi all, What are you all doing to track attendance at your programs? Currently each kid that walks through our door is assigned their own sign-in sheet and is asked to sign-in each day that they come in (see attached sign-in sheet). This past year or so it has been an ongoing challenge to get kids to sign-in each day. We have tried to explain the importance of the data, but often times kids simply forget! What are you all doing to more accurately track the kids that access your programs on a daily, monthly, yearly basis? I have been researching different online solutions or "cooler" ways to sign-in, but all options are way too pricy! Your ideas would certainly be a huge help!!!! Large bicycle donation of used bikes Needs home

Hello, This is Paul Slater, of the BicycleXchange (BXC). I received an email from someone whom wishes to donate approx 150 bikes some disassembled and mostly maintained. The bikeb are located on Sanibel Island (West Coast of Florida) coming out of storage units. I was wondering if there is a collective not yet added to the directory that may want the donation. We are just out of reach to get them however it could be rewarding because it is such an affluent area. It seems the public is using the current directory for contacts. I know a few small coops that im encouraging to join. Thank you and hope to hear back soon. I have requested pictures to see the stash...I will share them when i get 'em. Bike Collectives Newsletter?

Hey folks, it's probably not a new idea but especially with upcoming information about Bike!Bike! I've been toying with the idea of starting a no-reply mailing list. There's a lot of logistics that we'd have to get worked out and it's something that I scarcely have time to administer but I wanted to get a general room temperature on this. One idea that I had that might help us smooth out some other issues as well was to replace the content on bikecollectives.org with a sign up form for bike collectives (not touching the wiki of course). Bike collectives would sign up as an organization giving their general email address and location and possibly a few other details. We could talk about having a few administrators that could send out notices, likely at most one a month although probably much more rarely than that and in addition we could use the information to know more about our community at large. This would also open up the possibility of putting bikecollectives.org to better use. My main concern is that, due to the nature of the think tank (long discussions, off-topic discussions, in-fighting) we are keeping many organizations in the dark about information that we would like them to know about. I'd appreciate any feedback and possibly volunteers! Thanks!.godwin

Hi Everyone, My name is Shah Mohamed. Some of you know me by some other child hood name or nick name. We have all met and hung-out, spent time together sharing an experience or two and in the larger context, shared life. I have great respect and admiration for you all. We all have unique gifts and talents and I hope that every one of you is engaging your talents and gifts living life close to its limits. This is the first time I am sending out an email of this kind. I don't normally don't do this but I need your help. I have for the past year been working at an organization that I believe in. I do work that is rewarding and meaningful to me and from what I can tell is very meaningful to the people I touch. I run a small social enterprise and community space named Bike Works based out of a site called the Evergreen Brick Works<http://ebw.evergreen.ca>. We are an environmental community center. A place where people can gather and explore the ideas and practices of what it means to live more sustainably. Evergreen is a National not for profit charitable organization that helps make cities more livable. We do this using a methodology that focus on Nature, Culture and Community. Acting both onsite at the Evergreen Brick Works<http://ebw.evergreen.ca> and across the country in communities big and small we are helping to build a brighter future based in sustainable and healthy practices.
