The Bicycle Collective was founded in 2002 and has grown since then to include permanent satellite locations in Ogden, Provo, and Westminster College Campus, as well as our flagship shop in Salt Lake City. The St. George shop will be our 5th location and will have the models of satellite shops in Ogden and Provo to follow as it develops, as well as mentorship from the Executive Director and three Location Directors. We are confident in the success of the model we follow and have no doubt that with the right person in the job, the St. George Bicycle Collective will be effectively financially independent within two years while simultaneously offering all of our core programs to the community. St George is known locally as a retirement (snowbird) community, and for good reason. Temperatures range from 110 in July to 55 in January. While hot during the summer, the extreme temperatures last less than 3 months and the mild winters more than make up for it. We're anticipating that while the other shops experience slow periods from November-April, St. George BC will continue operations without much interruption. And it is a biking hotspot with hundreds of miles of MTB trails in the region as well as far stretching and low-traffic pavement through some of the most varied terrains in the country in all directions. The UDOT region covering St. George is known for spending more on bicycle infrastructure than any other region in Utah. And it's less than a 2 hour drive to Las Vegas, for what that's worth. This position is best suited to a candidate who works well with minimal direct supervision and who seeks an interesting challenge with freedom to carry out creative solutions to unforseeable challenges. Support will be available 24/7 from myself, many mentors, and local contacts, but with 4 hours of freeway between SLC and St. George, the Location Director will be working in something of an island. Contact Sara in Fargo sarawatsoncurry(a)gmail.com Or Casey in Minneapolis casey(a)thehubbikecoop.biz Heads up; the ride north from the border to Winnipeg along Hwy 59 is kinda meh and the last time I did it along Hwy 59 (11 years ago now...) the road was pretty crappy with no shoulder. Hwy 216 might be better but I haven't ever rode it south of Grunthal. That said the ride from Minneapolis to Thief river falls is fantastic with lots of beautiful paved rail trails. I'll try to gather more intel on an ideal route in the coming weeks. Look forward to see y'all here in Wpg! Topeka Community Cycle Project Job Description - Education, Outreach, and Advocacy Coordinator Time Commitment: 20 hours/week, three-month probationary period Compensation: $13.75 hourly Reports to: President, Board of Directors Responsibilities: The Education, Outreach and Advocacy Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing all the activities happening at or near the Topeka Community Cycle Project, at 801 NE Poplar. This person’s responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to, BLAST support and enhancement, bicycle safety educator, public outreach coordinator and local advocate for bicycling access and infrastructure. Any responsibilities listed here may be delegated if an appropriate party is identified. BLAST Support and Enhancement- providing support to PE instructors in implementing BLAST curriculum and implementing trailer and bike fleet scheduling to maximize use and availability of BLAST resources to Topeka and Shawnee County. Bicycle Safety Educator- providing educational programming and bicycle promotional events to spur bicycling activity by “interested, but concerned” potential bicycle riders; enhancing access and bicycle ridership in Topeka. Public Outreach Coordinator- providing educational and bicycle resources in remote and community hubs where there is interest in the community. Bringing bicycles and best safety practices to the neighborhoods of Topeka and Shawnee County through grassroots and community events and community locations. Local Advocate- participating in community discussions, committees on active transportation, bicycling and active wellness pursuits. Also reaching beyond traditional bicycle specific discussions and attending MTPO and other meetings and public forums to integrate bicycle perspectives into a larger transportation and city planning and development discussion . Skills necessary: -LCI certification: ability to complete League of American Bicyclists Traffic Skills and LCI Certification, as it’s offered, within 6 months. -Familiarity with current social media platforms and Microsoft Office and Adobe products -Comfort with speaking in front of groups and presenting new ideas in a group setting. -Coordinating and engaging volunteers, in addition to a willingness to help in seeking funds to keep the position and organization sustained on a perpetual basis.

Looking for input on how the rest of the community bike shop world handles this. Do you acknowledge individuals for length of service by hours volunteered or simply an anniversary of their first date of volunteer service? What tiers of acknowledgement do you implement such as 1 month, 2 months, up to 6 months and then perhaps each year after that, 1 year, 2 years ...........and so on? Salesforce with the nonprofit plugin. Powerful, quirky, most folks can use it, though did I mention quirky? We track volunteer hours, and even easily enough Earn a Bike credit/debit. Hello all, *Short message*: please reply and let me know what software programs your group uses to coordinate your volunteers! I'm also happy to hear about donor management/CRM and any other software which makes your organization run smoothly. *Longer message*: Common Cycle in Ann Arbor, MI is working to transition from mobile operations to a fixed space. To prepare, we want to get a grasp on who our volunteers are, how much they volunteer, how we can help them volunteer more, etc etc. Currently we create event sign-ups in Google Sheets and event check-ins in Google Forms. It seems that a volunteer management software would be the best solution to manage our people as we expand. I know this topic has been covered in the ThinkTank before, and I've used the Archive resources (and Wikia things too) to create a fairly comprehensive list of available programs. Hello All, Our shop, San Francisco Yellow Bike Project, is currently transitioning from 6 years as an all-volunteer organization to an organization with two manager type employees and two intern type employees. Refunds

At Back2bikes we do not give refunds on bikes but allow people to trade up within a month We offer no warranty but will fix a bike within the first month if there are any issues such as brakes or derailleur slippage or any serious issues. Regarding second hand parts we generally sell them to people who seem to be aware of what they are buying and explain that they are cheap and that it is buyer beware. With new parts we abide by Australian law which states that the part must be fit for use. We generally offer to exchange or refund if the part is faulty or unfit for purpose. I would make the comment that we are a self funding community organization so often our buyers are also donors. Our policy is therefore to err on the side of generosity particularly when dealing with clients who are obviously in need of assistance. Our Co-op sells used parts and a select amount of new parts, mostly consumables and commuter level wheels, etc. Does anyone have a refund policy that they would like to share? Caveat emptor(let the buyer beware) is established common law. Refunds are a courtesy extended to the buyer to promote goodwill. At 3rd Ward Bike Shop, it comes down to the question, "Who is at fault?" If a staff member sold a part, new or used, that did not fill the need or correct the problem, then we exchange for the correct part. If a new part is flawed or fails due to manufacture defect, we replace the part. If we can not satisfy the client, because we do not have the part/solution at hand, we refund his money. Car sharing in community

Hello TheThinkThank, maybe a bit weird subject as we are talking about bikes most of the time, but we just bought an old van so we can transport many bikes and sounsystem on tricycle and stuff from and to our voluntary bike coop, Bikekitchen Bratislava in Slovakia. We are now lookiing for some policy for sharing the car in our community, even though we trust each other we would like to have some rules so everything will work fine. We expect three kinds of use - mostly use for purposes of our bikekitchen, then renting it to friendly coops and then personal use of our core members. Does anybody have any experience with that? Looking for some beta testers for a Bike Collectives translation and copy editing website

Hey folks, I'm looking for some people to start beta testing a new site that I've been working on: https://workbench.bikecollectives.org/ The site contains mockups and translations for Bike!Bike!but will also be used for bikecollectives.org once development starts on the new site.The current feature set includes the ability to edit English copy, add or edit Spanish and French Translations, and comment on page designs. I've already added all the users who attended Bike!Bike! 2016, but if I missed you or you didn't attend last year, either email me directly or use the access request interface which you will see once logging in. Please note that editing this copy will not change the live site but will be queued to be deployed at a later date, so if you mess around please put things back or let me know if you run into troubles. Feel free to make actual improvements to copy where you see fit. In any case, I'm looking for feedback, feature requests, and of course bugs. If you're github user you can write issues here: https://github.com/bikebike/bikecollectives_workbench, otherwise please email me directly. I've been notified that if you are a US citizen crossing the border in Canada and you tell them you are going to give a workshop, they can require that you get a work visa. Women, Trans, Non-binary Shop Times

Hi All, After 10 years of teaching time that serves everyone B!KE is finally endeavoring to carve out a space just for women! We have often managed to strike a pretty excellent gender balance in the shop but interestingly recent growth has the shop feeling very male dominated. We are adding a bunch of hours for the on season and planning to make some of that time specifically for women. As a cis-gendered female mechanic, I feel pretty confident about hosting space, and defending the need of a space, that is for women only. I know that many other shops combine their women only time with trans/non-binary/femme time and I am feeling a bit concerned about a few things. How do you addresses these things: 1) Why combine these two groups? Don't they have different needs? 2) Do trans & non-binary people get their needs met? Or are they still second to women? 3) How much time is spent explaining gender identity and pronouns to baby boomers? 4) Is it better to have a women only time that excludes trans folks OR a women, trans, non-binary night that sort of includes them all? The language I am currently leaning toward is that this shop time is for "all women-identified people". I am curious what issues and resolutions have been found in other shops.
