Good Afternoon all, I was just wondering what shops out there have specific shop nights dedicated to a specific group of individuals...Do you have literature you hand out to folks who ask questions about this specific shop night? How do you run it? I would like to host an evening where folks who identify as women/trans are able to come work on/learn about bike maintenance/safety in a welcoming environment... Any info is helpful. Especially concerning how you respond to negative comments pertaining to such evenings... I hope everyone is well and thank you, in advance, for any information. I want to increase the availability and number of bikes in a neighborhoods. I am writing an agreement with a couple of community centers with these requirements: 1.During the winter they have to provide transportation to a build-a-bike class for kids. Hopefully, about 40 kids total will want to do because the centers will have to pay to get a bus. 2. I will give the community centers approx. 15 or 20 bikes. They will have to maintain the bikes, and have weekly rides with adult ride leaders. 3.I will teach ride safely classes 4. I will need them to collect relevant data, which I need to use later. Programmer for Volunteer scheduling application?

A volunteer began working on a web-based application that I would describe as a combination of Doodle and Meetup. It draws from Google Calendar to create events, which can then be modified with data such as staff requirements. Reminders are emailed to volunteers, who can then click links directly from their email to sign up for shifts and events without having to log in. They can bookmark a link to view their calendar with shifts they've signed up for. Somehow, the volunteer who was working on it disappeared completely and is not responding to any attempts at contact after several months (we're a little concerned). The program seems to be about 75% complete, it functions on a basic level. You can see it at http://volunteer.meinstein.org The code is posted online at https://github.com/jrkoch/volunteer . The programming language appears to be Ruby on Rails 4 (I don't know nuthin about this). I am reaching out for assistance with completing this program because I believe this would be a very useful application for our organization and possibly for others on this list (and beyond). If anyone has alternate recommendations I welcome them. I've already checked out VolunteerSpot and it seems to require entering events manually, and since I'm already doing that on Google Calendar, Facebook, and Meetup, I'd rather not do that, too. Changing Membership rules

Our bike shop has never paid rent to the church that houses us, in our 12 years of existence. In an attempt to change that, we have just recently changed our membership scheme away from volunteer hours for membership to paid memberships. We're only charging $30/year (and they get a t-shirt). And we're getting lots of new members. But some of the guys who have been around for 3 or 4 years were previously told that they had membership for life due to their many volunteer hours. I don't want to discount what they've done for our shop in the past. But I am also attempting to change some of the culture of our shop, a culture that had become a bit of a boys' club where the old guys got to do exciting stuff like fix bikes and new members got to sort small parts.
