lending book library of bike books in your shop?

Hey Everyone, I hope the slow traffic on the list of late is a factor of everyone getting some good back-end planning time. In the past few years, we've collected a decent stack of bicycle repair and other type of bike books (things like Lance Armstrong's book, or local mountain bike trail guidebooks, etc). We'd like to do something productive with these, and it occurred to me that we could lend them out to members. Does anyone else have something similar? What do you all do with the books that are donated? Thanks. Hope you're warm out there! josh.

The thread on housing storage reminded me of a shop I visited in Montreal called SOS Velo. Not so much in terms of parts storage but in creative ways of using bike parts. When re-Cycles was entering its partnership with Cycle Salvation the visit was made so that both orgs. could see a large-scale bicycle recycling centre in operation. This shop is a fully-funded place that not only recycles bikes but also provides "a unique program that ensures the social and professional integration of people who have trouble finding and keeping jobs". This places recycles everything! If it can no longer be used on a bike it gets turned into bike art, and some of it is very cool indeed. Last year, we turned around 450 bicycles, helmets & locks, and it gets bigger every year. It’s a great way to help many families who otherwise would have limited resources to obtain bicycles. Some of the donated bicycles are ready to go, some need minor repairs and/or adjustments, and some are not worth fixing but we use them for parts bikes. There are other events going on; a bicycle obstacle course, live music, the police and fire department, sno-cones and cotton candy, health oriented booths, but the bicycle give-away is the biggest draw. We provide YOU volunteers with fun, food and drinks, bicycles, parts, supplies and compressed air. If you can, please bring a repair stand, basic tools and friends!
