Software specifically for Bicycle Collectives

There are a few of us working on some software to keep track of volunteer hours, bike repairs, events, etc.,... as they apply specifically to bike collectives. The more input into the design process the better as well as any help from some computer savvy programmers in the midst. > All you need to do is turn the handlebar of the bike against the wall > 90 degrees so it sits flat and alternate the direction of the rest of the > bikes. turning the handlebards 90 degrees really helps to reduce the ammount of space a bike will take up. another trick i learned from bikes not bombs: remove the pedals! they often get hooked on one another, stuck in the spokes, etc. then yeah, pile 'em or hang 'em (you can get rubber-coated hooks from any hardware store - thread them into some thick ply wood (better thank 2x4s because they don't split) and mount the plywood to the ceiling or walls). as for finding space to keep your bikes, we're just starting to sort that out. i've found that there are people with empty garages, corners of wharehouses, parking stalls, etc. if you can't afford to rent, let people know you're looking for space and you might get lucky and get some donated. good luck! -- omar pedal depot project manager p 604.708.4992 f 604.879.2453 e learn(a)pedalpower.org

Hello out there-- I'm new to this list, working on Baltimore's first bike collective. We're woking towards our first year of active existence, and we have lot's of questions and could use any advice we can get. In paticular we are trying to figure out the best way to store bikes efficiently and inexpensively...Also we are working on starting up mechanics classes for kids and adults and would appreciate any advice, curricula, written materials, or funding sources anyone could shoot our way... I sent something out to all the bike collectives before, but I thought I'd try this list as well and see what came up.... thanks in advance-- i'm excited that this list exists! -beth of Velocipede Bike Project

Google Maps are popular, and they allow you to add your business (or in our case non-profit) for free. When you do that people can just type in your organization's name and find you and all your contact info.
