The Executive Director will see the CBC to its next stage of growth. The Executive Director's responsibilities include oversight of direct service programs, resource development (fundraising), public relations, facilities management, volunteer management and general administrative and capacity building operations. Additional areas of responsibility include implementing the strategic plan, evaluating and enhancing the organization, administering organizational policies and procedures, supervising staff, developing human resource functions and managing the budget. The Executive Director position is full-time exempt, hired by and directly accountable to the Board of Directors through its elected Board President. Essential Responsibilities 1. Management and Administration a. Serves as the primary organization planner- setting goals and objectives consistent with the mission, vision and strategic plan of the CBC. b. Develops projections of needs and funding. c. Develops and administers operational policies and procedures. d. Oversees all programs, services and activities to ensure the CBC is meeting program objectives. e. Leads all business and organizational development and capacity-building efforts. f. Ensures compliance with funding sources and regulatory requirements. g. Provides information for evaluation of the organizational activities. 2. Financial Management a. Develops, recommends and monitors annual, project and capital budgets. b. Ensures effective audit trails through financial policies and procedures. c. Approves expenditures in relationship to Board approved budgets. d. Provides for sound fiscal record-keeping and reporting. e. Submits monthly financial statements to the Board Treasurer. f. Reviews and approves grant applications and funding proposals. g. Actively participates in developing and stewarding donor relationships. 3. Public Relations and Marketing a. Serves as chief liaison with the public and local community, various governmental entities and community organizations. b. Ensures appropriate representation of CBC by all employees and volunteers. 4. Personnel Administration a. Administers Board approved personnel policies and procedures. b. Ensures ethical and legal hiring, supervision and termination procedures. c. Oversees any and all disciplinary actions. d. Provides supervision and evaluation of staff. e. Assists staff in developing and executing professional development plans. f. Manages all human resource functions including annual reviews and staff capacity planning. 5. Board of Directors Relations a. Assists the Board President in planning the agenda and materials for board meetings. b. Initiates and assists in developing policy recommendations and in setting priorities. c. Identifies board skills matrix gaps and recruits board members accordingly to maximize board effectiveness in conjunction with Governance Committee. d. Works with the Development Director and Board to raise funds necessary to grow the CBC. e. Assists with recruiting members for standing and ad hoc committees. 6. Risk Management a. Oversees risk management analysis and procedures for direct service programs, financial health, volunteer and personnel management and community relations. 7. Facilities Management (in coordination with volunteer Facilities Committee) a. Ensures the CBC facility is maintained and repaired as necessary. b. Hires independent contractors to make necessary repairs or improvements. c. Prepares capital investment and repair budgets for Board approval. Physical Demands/Hazards The position requires sitting, standing, walking, bending, cycling (20 miles), pushing, and pulling. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 or more pounds. Additional Skills, Knowledge and Experience 1. Create and maintain a cultural environment of belonging, power, freedom and fun within all people and groups that intersect with the CBC mission. 2. Demonstrate experience leading adolescent youth development initiatives. 3. Computer literacy in word processing, spreadsheets and donor management software. 4. Skilled at organizational concepts including coaching, interpersonal relationships and conflict resolution. 5. Outstanding oral and written communication, including storytelling. 6. Ability to manage critical path timelines and multiple projects while maintaining attention to details. 7. Standard First Aid and CPR certification. Education and Experience A Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, business management, social work, communications, education, marketing or equivalent experience is required. Master's degree is preferred. A minimum of five years of experience in nonprofit or business leadership and management roles with demonstrated success in securing gifts from individuals, foundations and corporations. Allen, At Columbus Bike Co-op we have Shop Monitors as well as a full-time staff person (he is paid hourly, and is very underpaid for his experience. We are lucky to have him, and are working on our fundraising so we can pay him more). Shop Monitors help folks fix their bikes and open/close the shop as needed. We also have a Shop Monitor Training Program; this ensures that the Monitors know what they're doing and also draws in more people to volunteer who have an interest in fixing bikes but are not as skilled yet. Our shop is open 2-3 days a week for 3 hours at a time. We are hoping to add another day during the summer that will be staffed with newly trained volunteers. We have an operations committee that handles issues that arise. It meets quarterly. If you are interested, I can connect you with our shop manager. He would be glad to shed some light on more of our operations. All:We are tossing around ideas of how to grow our shop manager roster. For the last 5 years, we have operated Broke Spoke with a Board of Directors, most of whom do mission oriented work but are not involved in the day to day activities of the shop, and a Steering Committee. Our current shop managers are made up from our Steering Committee, all long time volunteers who have agreed to work X number of hours / month and be in charge of opening and closing the shop as a shop manager a minimum of once a month. Currently, the Steering Committee has 4 members and this works well for handling shop related issues / procedures during our monthly steering committee meeting. We currently have 8 people who make up our Committed Volunteers. These folks work a minimum of two shifts / month in exchange for 24 hour access to the shop. We are looking at expanding the number of days we are open but need additional shop managers. We would like to expand our shop manager numbers from our Committed Volunteer roster but not add the extra burden of the monthly meeting to those folks. Bike storage

Hello Its Raquel from bike collective TigreBici in Monterrey Mexico. We are about to launch a bike system on campus but we have and issue in storage. The initial amount of bikes is 50 and we have around 15 meters to storage at least half of them. Any ideas on how to make it easy to the persons that are going to mount/dismount bicycles and use the space in the best way possible? Regards R.

Hello everyone! Are you ready for Bike!Bike! in Detroit this Fall? Well, I'm ready also, however I'm doing a fundraiser ride from Vancouver, BC Canada to Tijuana, Mexico, I will be leaving during the 3rd week of August 2016 and will not return until late October. The purpose of this fundraiser ride is to provide biking programs for youth in disadvantaged areas within Chicago. The fundraiser will provide funding for them to sustain and/or start their youth based biking programs. The youth of need activities to hep prevent them from getting into trouble or worse. Being involved in a biking program helps them learn discipline, develop thinking skills, problem solving and in some cases business skills. Youths involved in biking can experience different communities and open the world to their dreams and desires. Bicycling develops discipline while learning bicycle safety, the youth acquire their thinking skills when they're learning how the components of a bicycle works, problem solving skills evolve when the youth learn how to repair a faulty bicycle component, and the business skills develop when they learn how to manage a bicycle shop. Biking can help teach youth to make better life choices. Discounts/donations for accessories

Hey everyone, We're involved in a couple programs that provide free/by donation bikes to folks that wouldn't otherwise have access and have recently identified a real need for accessories (particularly locks, but also helmets and lights). Has anyone had any success getting discounted or donated accessories from distributors, commercial shops (i.e. deadstock) or through fundraisers or bike drives?
