Hi Rachael, This is a great idea and a huge endeavor! Count me in! I'll send a couple of articles on perspectives on commuter cycling. Meanwhile, check out A to B Magazine. Professor Pivot has great pieces on technical bike stuff & repair. The magazine might be a bit too Brit. for most readers, but it has great info. Best, Phil Hammerslough

Hiya, folks. I volunteered at bikebike to facilitate the gathering and organizing of materials (paperwork, curricula, program descriptions, zines, flyers, graphics, bylaws, mission statements, instructional materials, press releases, media hits, etc) to put into a wiki and perhaps form into a workbook. My vision is to organize items by category and by particular co-op/collective, and have them all cross-referenced with each other. I just put a call out on the community bicycle listserve. Please feel free to forward it to other channels and networks. Anyone interested in helping to keep it organized, please let me know!! In somewhat related news, we've got a Foundation Center here in Atlanta. It's a free library of information about foundations and grants. If anyone is interested in grant seeking, please let me know. We need YOU to contribute -- this is a web resource for all of us, by all of us. 1) This is the current mission statement, any suggestions? "The mission of the Bike Collective Network (www.bikecollectiveS.org) is to improve and encourage communication and resource sharing between existing and future community bike shops. Collectively we can improve a bigger wheel as opposed to re-inventing smaller ones." 2) What should we call this thing? Is there a better name than, "Bike Collective Network," or does this one do the job? 3) What other features should this website have? So far we have come up with... * Wikipedia style documentation site. * Document sharing (uploading & downloading) between collectives. * Google Map showing all the community bike programs. * Information on the next (and prior) BikeBike conferences. * Organization Directory (BOOP?) that anyone can add to and modify their entries. * Searchable email list (The Think Tank) archives and subscription details. * Offer sub-domains for Community Bike Shops without a web presence. 4) Do you know someone that should be involved in this project? hey, this is macho, from the bike dump, in winnipeg, canada. our website is at http://bike-dump.ca i probably met some of you folks at bike!bike! troy just filled me in that this site is being built. i would love to see a wiki with page topics like "developing an earn-a-bike program", "d.i.y. shop truing stand", "practicing anti-racism in a bike shop", "why collectives are important," or whatever people want to add develop out of this. i know some things about computers, so if you all ever need help with that side of things, let me know. i can also try to help out in whatever other ways are needed. in case any pittsburgh folks are on here (bike!bike! is happening in pittsburgh next year right?), the bike dump would like to bottomline contacting canadian bike collectives and encouraging them to attend. we can do mailouts, get on the phone, whatever. let us know. here's a quick update on our space: the jerky developer we were renting our space from went and sold the building and we have to be out by november! if any of you were at our (anti-)gentrification caucus, you'll know more details about that. we're talking about buying a house and operating out of that, which could be pretty exciting! oh and does anyone have contact info for that guy (can't remember his name right now) who did the "strange bikes" workshop at bikebike 2006, or any other milwaukee kids who could get me in touch with him? thanks. take care you all, macho

I posted this before, but just so it makes it on the archive... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- All, I am at a disadvantage because I didn't meet all of you at Bike!Bike! So to give a little background on myself, I am one of the founders of the SLC Bike Collective. As of a couple weeks ago, I am the first and only employee -- having left a software engineering job. For fun, and on the side, I design community/club sites for interactivity. So... I am trying to solve some logistical issues here in SLC, and thought it would be wonderful if I could get materials from other collectives. When I didn't find a centralized resource I started calling around and discovered this project.
