Hi Terry, I'd love to help you guys get your info into the spreadsheet. Same goes for anyone else out there who's having trouble getting access to the spreadsheet, or knows of a project who's not so tech-access oriented. Feel free to forward my contact info and this list of fields on to anyone you think would benefit from it. Also, if there's any info anyone feels belongs on this list, by all means, either add the column yourself, if you're comfortable, or hit me up off list and I'll do it. Here's a list of the fields we have listed for shops to include info about if they so choose: Name of community bike shop Street Address City State/Province Zip Country Phone Website Email address for contact Open Hours Women/Trans night? Youth Earn-a-Bike program? Youth programs? Build - a - Bike program adult? Other Programs? Sell bikes? Contact person Rolling/Roving/Portable bike repair program? Free/Referral Bike Program? What's the process for one to go from completely new "outsider" to trusted person with keys? If you'd like to send me that info, I'll enter it when i get a chance. And if you'd like, i can download ad send a non-online copy in excel or as a csv file for you to checkout, if you're interested in seeing what other shops are doing. It's quite incredible to see so man active people doing such amazing work. The more I learn about different shops and organizations, the more I feel I have in common with these folks, but at the same time, how different we all are. It's pretty awesome. Thanks! josh. Request for Inventory Tag Templates or Ideas

Hiya! Do any of you wonderful shops out there have a usable bike inventory tag you could share with us at MoBo? We're trying to design a tag for available project bikes in our basement that would list basic info like top tube length, wheel size, etc. etc. and notes about work needed -relevant info for members sifting through potential projects and then recording work done over the course of the project. If you have something that's worked for your shop or a document from another source and would pass it along, we'd be grateful. Advice on things to include would also be helpful. Thanks, friends! Community Bike Shops and academic research.

Community Bike folk, I'm trying to settle on a topic for a masters thesis and I'm interested in doing research into the organizational, legal and funding structures of community bike shops. I know that at bikebike minneapolis there was a session called "Plan Voltron" about creating a "cooperative of cooperatives" and some of the folks from our bike shop that made it to toronto mentioned this was also a topic of conversation this year. My first thought is that a qualitative and quantitative overview or survey of community bike shops would give a solid base for further work on this idea by identifying needs, wants, strengths, characteristics, etc. that would be useful to organizing linkages between shops. My main focus of study so far has been the "worker centers" movement, which seem to parallel community bike shops in some interesting ways, such as being relatively new, decentralized, and fast growing. I think this ( http://smlr.rutgers.edu/Unions/FineWorker.pdf) study that was done of workercenters would serve as a good model for one of community bike shops since it's central aim is to be useful for further movement building. So, now to the questions: 1. Does anyone know of any research done on community bike shops, academic or otherwise? 2. Would you see this as potentially useful information? Useful enough to participate in a survey of your shop? 3. If so, what kinds of things would you like to see research on? I would be doing this using both traditional research methods as well as more "strategic investigation" techniques, meaning that perspective would be from within the movement as a participant and their would be a specific strategic "usefulness" for the end result.
