Well, I recently threw together some hand-written HTML and slapped it onto a free (and ad-less) webhost. This seemed great at first, regardless of the weird URL. But after lots of other publicity and potential traffic, I've seen it get hacked twice (by a radical Islamic group after the whole host, nothing personal), and lately it's either painfully slow to load or completely down. So, I haven't done this for about a decade and I'm out of the loop. I'm really not willing to suffer any ads, but since our budgeted is obcenely limited for such fluff, does anyone have recommendations? Are there any more reliable ad-free free hosts? (Probably not, for obvious reasons.) Otherwise, how do you guys handle web hosting? How much does it cost? What's a good balance between reliable and affordable? How much is domain registration nowadays? We don't have our 501(c)(3) status yet so we won't get a deal until later this year, by the way. Anyway, please help. hey all, i'm looking to get in touch with the person who wrote/published the "no boys allowed" zine which was passed out at bikebike in san francisco. it was part of one of the oppression and gender identity issues workshops. we're looking to start a women's night here at community cycles, and i'd like to scan my copy as a pdf and email it to potential volunteers, as well as make some copies to have in the shop... if you're on the list, or if you know the person who wrote it (her name escapes me), please get in touch with me off list... thanks! josh. community cycles boulder

The Bike Collective Network will be in booth "L4" (http://ib.goexposoftware.com/2010/goExpo/floorPlan/viewFloorPlan.php) this year for Interbike. Yeah, we got bumped. But it will still be fun. It is that time of year again, where we pack rooms at Circus Circus, ride in crazy alley cat races, attend the NBDA seminars for non-profit applicable nuggets of info, check out the cycling industry's 2011 lines, and... then there are the things that stay in Vegas. A group will be driving out from Salt Lake City, Utah on the 21st. If you are planning on going, need help with badges, rooms, etc.,... please let me know offlist. Does anyone know a Mike Cipolla, who left his Univega Alpina mountain bike in Amsterdam, the Netherlands?

Hello Bike Think Tankers, My excuses for being off-topic, but a Dutch friend of mine has been trying to reach a Californian named Mike Cipolla, who left a very nicely kept 1995-vintage mountain bike on his balcony, five years ago. Mike was supposed to come back for it, someday. About 18 months ago, he and Arie fell out of email contact. Arie tells me that he is pretty sure Mike is/was a professional bike mechanic, and worked in a bike collective of some sort. He is in his late 20s or early 30s. The bike is in excellent condition, the wheels are within a millimeter of being perfectly true. There is also a folding Rhode Gear trailer that goes with it. Arie would like the use of his balcony back, as well as to get back in touch with Mike. Clearly the Univega was well-loved, and we want to make one last effort to find Mike before getting rid of it. Dreams For Kid's "Street Dreams" Program

Good Morning, Dreams For Kids is biking across America to raise awareness for the growing epidemic of youth homelessness. Our Street Dreams Campaign” will send one passionate man, Alex Petrou, cycling across the country to increase awareness for the 1.5 million children currently living in poverty in the U.S. He will ride from Los Angeles to New York in two months, sleeping in homeless shelters and stopping at bicycle collectives, schools and universities to educate the country on the increasing number of homeless youth in the U.S. We are looking to partner with bicycle collectives due to your unrelenting support for sustainable, educational and egalitarian programs. Our aligning interest and values are present in both Dreams For Kid’s and bicycle collectives’ passion to empower, sustain and take responsibility for the future human condition. Homelessness is a product of the way cities, administration and individual lives are structured. We have chosen to partner with the cycling community because it aims at disrupting these habitual attitudes towards transportation and customary routines. We believe this can consequently lead individuals out of homelessness. We have contacted you to invite you to participate in our Street Dreams project through various different avenues. Wheel Rack

I noted the use of a 2" x 4" as a fork rack and that looks like a good idea. I tried to do a search of the archives for ideas on wheel racks and the query failed. So other than hooks from the ceiling, what ideas have folks seen for storing wheels? I am working on improving my emt handlebar rack, will post a picture of it when it is completed. Here is how the work benches turned out. I wasn't quite done but you get the idea. I photocopied the tools then used polyurethane to seal the picture to the pegboard with a description printed out above them. I also got hooks with a security pin from McMaster-Carr and secured them with a hook holder from Hartville Tool. Bailing wire also works. ceiling ideas

hi friends, i am wondering if anyone out there bike space builders or otherwise have heard of or used any creative alternatives to sheetrock on the ceilings of industrial, loft, or community bike spaces. we want to insulate to R60 if possible. we have one example of what appears to be foil-backed attic batting stapled to the joists to create an insulated, reflective, and easy/inexpensive solution, but dont have any details or specs on the materials. we are dealing with a 15 foot ceiling that is currently uninsulated tin, and is in bad shape. thanks for reading and shoot me an email if you have any ideas! this for a future-phase of renovation at the new Troy Bike Rescue space in Troy, NY, but we need to figure out the cost now. heres some pics of the space in action Before (when we got the building in January for $5000 from the city): https://picasaweb.google.com/tbr.collective/WheelhouseBefore After (we opened June 2 with a youth shop and open shop twice a week) https://picasaweb.google.com/tbr.collective/Wheelhouse_Summer11 Andrew Lynn http://www.troybikerescue.org

Bike Mechanic Community Cycles (http://CommunityCycles.org) seeks a motivated and qualified individual to assist in working on customer tune ups and sale bikes. Duties include performing tune ups, refurbishing bikes for retail, as well as preparing for large bike sales. This is a 6-8 week full-time, temporary position during the evening shift 3-11p.m Monday through Friday. Responsibilities Refurbish bikes for showroom and large bike sales Perform customer tune ups Provide customer service, including repair diagnosis and point-of-sale operation Use of Point of Sale system (computerized cash register) Assist with general shop cleanliness Attend weekly staff meetings Report to the executive director and shop manager Position Requirements Successful candidates will have previous professional experience in the following areas: 3+ years of experience repairing bikes Retail management experience Ability to help customers and represent organization in a professional manner.
