Doireann: Thank you for bringing up this topic. I had never heard of a Lone Working Policy. Evidently, employers are obligated to see to the safety of lone workers in the event of mishap such as a slip and fall, or an attack by hostile customers. After conducting a few web searches, I gather that these policies are more widely used in the UK and Canada than in the US, where our Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has no Lone Working policy requirement. If it helps at all, a web search turned up this template for Lone Working Policy from the UK. This one doesn't seem very helpful, but still better than nothing. I expect that a determined searcher will find that many other examples are available online. https://positivelyuk.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/Sample-Lone-Worker-Poli… In addition, I found some commercial web sites that furnish sample Lone Working Policy templates by email, in exchange for your contact information. Undoubtedly a sales person will be contacting me shortly. :-) Although my non-profit shop does not have an official Lone Working Policy, this may be due to only having two paid employees working with many volunteers. Unofficially, the shop policy seems to be, "Don't work alone." In the past, when my shop has needed advice for issues like this, we have been able to turn to another local non-profit organization that provides free legal support and sample language. I hope that you too have such a resource that can provide assistance tailored to your particular country's requirements. Free Standing Bike Rack for 19 Bikes

I recently designed and built an inexpensive free standing bike rack suitable for shop use. It holds 19 bikes vertically from hooks, with alternating bikes pointing up and down, and with handlebars facing out. My goals were to: - store lots of bikes using minimal floor space, in a place where floor/wall hooks are not allowed - easily be able to get to any bike - easy to build - low cost Now I would like to share this design. looking for current info on orgs that move/donate surplus bikes

Hi all, Back in the day at RIBs we used to periodically ship excess bikes we had to Ghana. I don't remember anymore what the entity that did the shipping and organization for that was, only that last time I checked five or so years ago, they had long since ceased operation. I even contacted one of the organizers directly and they had no connections to share or interest in resurrecting their past project. It was a total dead end, and I never had the extra bandwidth to create a new effort on my own or deepen/broaden my search. So what I'm hoping to hear from people is whether they know of, and have contact info for, any current entities doing this kind of work. Loading up shipping containers or tractor trailers with bikes and shipping them off to places in the world with both a shortage *and* a capacity to fix them. One thing I heard from people when I was doing the rounds last time was that some of the entities that took the bikes either sold them for scrap, or dumped them off without knowing what was done with them after delivery, which ultimately turned out to be to sell them for scrap. The obvious worst case scenario for such an effort. So I'm also hoping to hear about any vetting that has been done, or firsthand experience with the downstream of such a project. Since we do not have a showroom and don’t fit the norm for a bike shop, it is difficult. Any suggestions. One of the wholesalers is asking for a occupational license for sale or repair of bicycles.
