Dear fellow subscribers, My name is Marcilla Smith, and I am the Communications Coordinator for the Durham Bicycle Co-operative. We are a 501(c)3 community bike project in Durham, NC, USA founded in 2007. I am writing today to make a first posting introduction, and to ask a question. Earlier this month, the City of Durham agreed to lease our co-op some unused property from the city's parks department. Until this happened, I have been unaware of any bike co-ops that operate on government land. All others with which I am familiar either own the land or lease from a private owner. I am curious if anyone has any additional information about any other community bike projects with facilities on government property. Summer Girls Bike Job

Hi All! I am volunteering with the West End House Girls Camp located in Parsonsfield, Maine to start a bicycling program! The West End House Girls Camp is a 501c3 summer camp for girls aged 7-17 whose mission is to give any girl the opportunity to go to camp regardless of financial means. Their campers are amazing! The bike program will focus on riding and basic bike maintenance skills this year. For the program, we have received donated bikes and tools. Now we just need a staff member with the right experience and a passion for teaching girls how to bike! The West End House Girls Camp has a camp counselor position available (June-August) for a woman who has experience working with youth (diverse youth a plus), biking, and bike maintenance. Hey, is anyone interested in doing a bit of copywriting for the Bike!Bike! website? The folks in Guadalajara will be taking care of a lot of it but I'm looking at adding a more extensive and generalized about page plus a few minor sections on other pages. If anyone is interested in doing some writing or reviewing afterwards I'd be grateful. On a similar note, we'll be translating the site into Spanish this year and I already have volunteers to help with that, but if you're interested in translating into other languages please talk to me. French and then German are probably our next biggest targets, but I would need some commitment as content will need to be updated if anything changes in the future. Qualifications: - Enthusiastic personality that inspires people, especially youth, to participate in cycling programs - Bicycle mechanic skills and experience, preferably as a certified Bike Mechanic - Ability to design and implement creative programs/curricula, write grant applications, and create reports - Must be able to work most Saturdays Salary: $1,440 per month starting 5/1/15, and then $1,800 per month, with a minimum expectation of working 30 hrs per week. Question? 200 steel bikes

I run a community bike shop in little rock arkansas and i am trying to make space in our shop. We have about 200ish steel bikes(26,27and 700) we are not utilizing that we are looking to give to another program that could use them. All one would need to due is come pick them up. Bike Depot is Denver’s Community Bike Center, a 501c3 nonprofit organization that uses a bikes+community+education approach to promoting bicycling. The GM oversees day-to-day operations at Bike Depot’s Park Hill neighborhood location, including retail sales & inventory, service, classes, and in-shop program delivery. We charge for our Shop Classes, which are open to the public/individuals, more info here: http://tinyurl.com/lhr2zej ...and we also charge for groups who hire us - those programs are usually customized for the partner organization and typically are for kids programming. Our base rate for private groups is *$100/hour* for most all of our programming, be it school presentations or what we call "Fixathons". There's some more info here under "For Organizations": http://tinyurl.com/n5sfuqn Most commonly these are programs that are organized with another organization such as what we call CDCs (Community Development Org) around here, schools, neighborhood groups, and sometimes corporate entities for things like teambuilding exercises. We don't explicitly promote our pricing as sliding scale, but we are sometimes flexible for organizations that we value as partners who may not be able to pay the full standard rate, sometimes by having the org's staff or volunteers spend some time volunteering for us. These sorts of programs comprised brought in about $15k for us last year, factoring in that we comp'd about $3500 worth of fees for orgs who couldn't pay our full rate. This is about 10% of our gross income, though these programs take a lot of time to organize and I'd like to see us streamline and standardize our programs more to make them easier to promote, easier to organize, easier to train volunteers for, more profitable, and to give us the capacity to do more of them! Join us for Bike! Bike! Southeast!

*[image: BIKEBIKE_SE2015_web_fb_burgundy_phoenix.jpg]Dear Bike Co-op Friends,Sopo Bicycle Cooperative (located in Atlanta, GA Grant Park area) is happy to invite you to the 2015 Bike! Bike! Southeast Conference. The conference will be held March 26-29. We are working hard to get our registration site up, but wanted to let you know so you can go ahead and save the date! Registration is a suggested donation of $25 and includes almost everything you need for the weekend including meals and snacks. Registrants will be paired with home-share hosts according to preferences (vegan friendly, LGBT friendly, cycling ability comfort level, and other common interests). If you’re coming from out of town and need a loaner bike, we will have plenty of those too. All proceeds of the registration donation go to Sopo Bicycle Co-op and BBSE expenses. What’s on tap for this year? We’re still planning the details, but so far we have plenty of sessions and plenty of fun scheduled, including an all-Atlanta Critical Mass Friday night, a chili cook-off complete with beer and bands Saturday, and an optional “mini-tour” on Sunday, just in case you didn’t get enough riding in! Want to present a session? We would love for you to share your thoughts, ideas, and successes of your shops. We Need Your Recommendations on Children's Bikes

Our local school district wants to purchase about 20 bikes that can be used for children in 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades. We're looking for recommendations of particular bikes to purchase. We're thinking strong, workhorse bikes that are comfortable and easy to ride and will require little to no maintenance. Almost like a children's bike share bike but without all the weight. Likewise, we're also considering purchasing some Strider bikes [1], to help teach children who don't know how to ride, but we also think that we can probably just take the pedals off of the bikes that we do buy.
