We are wrapping up a busy summer and transitioning into an exciting Fall. We are so grateful for the immense support we received for the campaign to purchase the property at 732 S. 1st St. W. We had a wild turn near the end of the capital campaign, and still have some work ahead of us to become the new owner. Please read the following news article about the state of our efforts to purchase our home. To view pictures and a summary of the entire Cycles of Change campaign timeline click here. As a piece to finish off the financing of the property, we are extremely close to offering promissory notes to the community. These are essentially loans that will be paid back by Free Cycles over time through a combination of tenant rental income, continued fundraising, and growth in program revenue. The future is bright! Please be patient as we work through finalizing the specific details of these notes. Although our final stage of our campaign is not actively canvassing, phone-banking, or asking for donations, we sure welcome and appreciate them. We are also extremely grateful for volunteer help, please contact us with any interest you may have in getting involved. Upcoming Projects: -9 home site visits fixing bikes with kids on the Salish Kootenai Reservation -2 months of workshops in collaboration with ENDVR HomeSchool -6 weeks of Growing Bike Builders with Montana Conservation Corps & Washington Middle School -Ongoing bike support for incoming refugee families in partnership with Soft Landing Missoula -Bicycle repair and support for the Potomac School Bike-A-Thon -Maintenance workshops at Opportunity Resource's Autumn Fest -Join us this Saturday, September 24th, from 11-4 pm for the 21st Annual Festival of Cycles. Featuring a Warehouse Clearance sale with screaming deals on one of a kind, vintage, and modern bike frames! Come find your winter project. Frames will go for $20, $30, and $40. Bike building, sculpture crafting, music, and more. -Saturday, October 1st, 9 am. Ride with the Free Cycles team in the Homecoming Parade. All are welcome.Theme is: Floating Under the Big Sky with Bicycles! -On Sunday, October 16th, is the Annual Tweed Ride. Come to the shop around 1 pm, dressed in your finest attire, as the group ride will take off at 1:30 pm sharp. We are searching for people willing to cook and bake for this event. -1000 New Gardens and Free Cycles joint fundraiser on the evening of October 22nd. Capital Campaign and Re-fitting our space: Suggestions?

Urban Bike Project of Wilmington Delaware will soon be embarking on a Capital Campaign to structurally stabilize and re-fit our current location which is an 100+ year old city-owned former police carriage barn. We are a non-profit community bike shop located in a low income inner city area. We have an architect engaged to help with some preliminary plans and drawings, and we've met with a number of our key volunteers to discuss how we can change our current space to maximize efficiency. This is a rather broad question, but I'm wondering if anyone has any practical experience on do's and don't's for such an undertaking or any other useful advice? We're trying to co-locate as best as possible our tools and work-stands and locate our used parts closer as well. This will limit the movement required with our current design and allow us to keep a closer watch on things to limit theft as best we can. Also trying to formalize a waiting area to help prevent customers wandering which is a particular problem during Youth Open Shop night,but also with adults. As I said, a rather broad topic but maybe someone on this list has real experience that they want to share. Bike Works has been working for people, biking, and community in Seattle since 1996. Our programs and services invest in people and encourage bicycling as a clean and healthy transportation alternative. Last year over 2,000 youth and adults participated in our programs and gained the skills and resources they need to translate lessons about cycling into their own lives, helping them to make healthier decisions about their futures. We also redistribute over 6,000 used bicycles annually to youth and adults in Seattle through our programs, internationally through our partners and through our community bike shop. We value and seek diverse team members who are passionate, innovative, collaborative, professional, fun, responsible and solutions-oriented. Role Overview: The Bike Works Program Coordinator works with the Program Department to deliver various operations of youth and adult programs and works closely with the program staff in teaching bike repair classes and performing all needed mechanic work associated with these classes. This is an excellent opportunity for a bike mechanic with youth and adult mentoring/teaching and development experience and enthusiasm for working as part of a team. This position is a full-time position that requires evening and weekend work. Essential Job Functions: . Works alone, or in tandem with other program staff, to run community programs; including bike repair classes, bike riding clubs, bike giveaways, bike summer camps, BikeMobile services, and partnerships. . Coordinates bike mechanic work related to all programs; fixes and safety checks bikes for programming. . Maintains all classroom environments; cleans all spaces weekly. . Coordinates bike storage and bike needs for various parts of the organization. . Participates in agency-wide planning and staff development processes. Thank you all so much for taking the time to check to see if you knew of any missing community bike shops. Not only did we add and update the main list, I also added a bunch of seedling pages using the websites y'all helpfully provided. So now we have a more comprehensive list!
