Well, I recently threw together some hand-written HTML and slapped it onto a free (and ad-less) webhost. This seemed great at first, regardless of the weird URL. But after lots of other publicity and potential traffic, I've seen it get hacked twice (by a radical Islamic group after the whole host, nothing personal), and lately it's either painfully slow to load or completely down. So, I haven't done this for about a decade and I'm out of the loop. I'm really not willing to suffer any ads, but since our budgeted is obcenely limited for such fluff, does anyone have recommendations? Are there any more reliable ad-free free hosts? (Probably not, for obvious reasons.) Otherwise, how do you guys handle web hosting? How much does it cost? What's a good balance between reliable and affordable? How much is domain registration nowadays? We don't have our 501(c)(3) status yet so we won't get a deal until later this year, by the way. Anyway, please help. The Bike Collective Network will be in booth "L4" (http://ib.goexposoftware.com/2010/goExpo/floorPlan/viewFloorPlan.php) this year for Interbike. Yeah, we got bumped. But it will still be fun. It is that time of year again, where we pack rooms at Circus Circus, ride in crazy alley cat races, attend the NBDA seminars for non-profit applicable nuggets of info, check out the cycling industry's 2011 lines, and... then there are the things that stay in Vegas. A group will be driving out from Salt Lake City, Utah on the 21st. If you are planning on going, need help with badges, rooms, etc.,... please let me know offlist. Design contest for bicycle valet parking rack: $250 prize

Hello, colleagues; The Ohio City Bicycle Co-op <http://ohiocitycycles.org/> has been valet-parking bikes<http://ohiocitycycles.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=24%3…>at community events for about 10 years. We have tried many different solutions for portable parking racks for this service including shipping pallets and baby-crib rails, and are now using bike rims<http://ocbc.smugmug.com/Other/Earthfest-2007-2007-04-23/0614091211/83848784…>screwed to three furring strips<http://ocbc.smugmug.com/Other/Earthfest-2007-2007-04-23/0614091210/83848781…>, (the best photos we have are in these links). We're looking for a better solution, as we have several regular yearly events where we need to park up to 300 bikes. As the above-linked photos attest, portability is a primary consideration. Thanks to a grant from Cleveland Colectivo <http://www.clevelandcolectivo.org/>, we are offering $250 to anyone with a better idea. This contest closes May 11th. free maintenance resources?

Hey gang, I'm a volunteer from Off the Chain, taking a break to go to grad school in Syracuse. I'm in the process of putting together a pathfinder on free bike maintenance resources for a winter biking clinic that I'm giving next month, and I'm interested to know what resources everybody would suggest. The resources don't need to relate to winter biking at all since the handout is meant to be a supplement, to give people list of some of the best places to start learning about bike maintenance. I'm also not interested only in comprehensive resources. If you know of a great resource for a specific topic, I'm happy to hear of it. Also, if anybody has homemade materials that their interested in sharing, I'd be happy to link to them or to host them. When the pathfinder is done I'll post it to the list. thanks, -chris

Winter Cycling Clinic

Collectives, Our co-op will be giving a series of lectures this winter, the first of which is a winter cycle commuting clinic. I'd like to round out the materials we've put together with examples of what others have taught regarding this topic already. If you have any outlines or other presentation materials related to giving a winter bicycle commuting clinic we'd be most appreciative of you sharing. Boulder's Community Cycles gave a nice presentation regarding this topic at Mountain States Bike Bike last year. Their organization has all the materials for a presentation ready to go in a Rubbermaid tub for quick deployment. If a company, or other organization is in need of a presentation they can contact CC and for a fee have a ready-to-go presenter and presentation with little difficulty. Cheers, Sam

Donate Button on Websites

Hey everyone, I've been wondering about how effective "donate" buttons (like Google Checkout for Non-profits) are on project websites. Our cooperative has many active members, but also many sympathetic supporters, who would potentially donate to the cause without seeking membership (we have an annual membership fee which supports our operating costs). Right now the only way to donate is to come down to the shop or mail us a check. For those co-ops who use online donations, are they very effective for A)renewing memberships and B)getting support from non-members? Thanks! Does anyone have literature they use in their shops? Any templates, handbooks, worksheets etc.would be appreciated. We are in need of about everything. handbooks volunteer sheets time sheets orientation information marketing material inventory media etc. I have made a few but they are very basic and not too good so anything you have would be helpful.
