Well, I recently threw together some hand-written HTML and slapped it onto a free (and ad-less) webhost. This seemed great at first, regardless of the weird URL. But after lots of other publicity and potential traffic, I've seen it get hacked twice (by a radical Islamic group after the whole host, nothing personal), and lately it's either painfully slow to load or completely down. So, I haven't done this for about a decade and I'm out of the loop. I'm really not willing to suffer any ads, but since our budgeted is obcenely limited for such fluff, does anyone have recommendations? Are there any more reliable ad-free free hosts? (Probably not, for obvious reasons.) Otherwise, how do you guys handle web hosting? How much does it cost? What's a good balance between reliable and affordable? How much is domain registration nowadays? We don't have our 501(c)(3) status yet so we won't get a deal until later this year, by the way. Anyway, please help. hey all, i'm looking to get in touch with the person who wrote/published the "no boys allowed" zine which was passed out at bikebike in san francisco. it was part of one of the oppression and gender identity issues workshops. we're looking to start a women's night here at community cycles, and i'd like to scan my copy as a pdf and email it to potential volunteers, as well as make some copies to have in the shop... if you're on the list, or if you know the person who wrote it (her name escapes me), please get in touch with me off list... thanks! josh. community cycles boulder

Design contest for bicycle valet parking rack: $250 prize

Hello, colleagues; The Ohio City Bicycle Co-op <http://ohiocitycycles.org/> has been valet-parking bikes<http://ohiocitycycles.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=24%3…>at community events for about 10 years. We have tried many different solutions for portable parking racks for this service including shipping pallets and baby-crib rails, and are now using bike rims<http://ocbc.smugmug.com/Other/Earthfest-2007-2007-04-23/0614091211/83848784…>screwed to three furring strips<http://ocbc.smugmug.com/Other/Earthfest-2007-2007-04-23/0614091210/83848781…>, (the best photos we have are in these links). We're looking for a better solution, as we have several regular yearly events where we need to park up to 300 bikes. As the above-linked photos attest, portability is a primary consideration. Thanks to a grant from Cleveland Colectivo <http://www.clevelandcolectivo.org/>, we are offering $250 to anyone with a better idea. This contest closes May 11th. tracking statistics

Chris or I have mentioned in the past that re-Cycles has always kept track of certain stats. And these past couple of years it has really paid off in showing how much growth we've had to cope with. As an example, in the old, windowless basement that we occupied until early 2008 we had about 1,500 people use our shop. This includes volunteers, folks doing DIY repair, and people buying stuff. In 2008, in our most recent location, that number jumped to 2,500. In 2009 that soared to 4,400! No wonder we felt a bit constrained and needed to move AGAIN. So we are now ensconced in our new digs (right beside the previous place) and we'll see how things add up this year. We also know that last year we took in at least 1,200 bikes! Many were scrapped, some donated away, and the rest built up for sale. And the last of those are selling fast. We'll exhaust our inventory of ready bikes in the next week or so, then back to our usual game of bikes going out the door as fast as we get them ready. Building cargo bikes in developing countries

Very cool and practical... We have a fleet of 'pixie' bikes- kids bikes with big handlebars and raised seat with reinforcement. Everyone loves riding these bikes, in parades, for jousting, to cruise. i can see easy modification for all sorts of utility bikes like the one you picture. Another reason to not recycle all the extra bikes we all get! Please try to save bikes, unless rusted. Space is an issue for all of us, but we all have a duty to try hard to reuse things.
