I have never made it to a Bike! Bike! because I try to keep a motor
minimalist traveling radius. But the Bici! Bici!s I went to in California
were most excellent, I can only imagine how much fun Bike! Bike! is.
So this year, my partner (Darin Wick) and I (Angel York) are offering to
host an online Bike! Bike!! Now! With a smaller carbon footprint!!! I
know I haven't been active here on the Think Tank for a while, so here's my
wiki page <https://www.bikecollectives.org/wiki/index.php?title=User:Angel>
if you're newer and curious about me.
*Please fill out this interest survey before 8am on May 1*:*

I am also happy to share the results (minus contact info) with anyone who
is curious.
Thanks,
Angel

Hi all,
Some of you might have heard that us workers at Experimental Station recently unionized! The union includes mechanics and workers from Blackstone Bicycle Works, a beloved youth program bike shop on Chicago's South Side! Unfortunately, rather than listen to the support of an overwhelming majority of staff, tenants, elected officials, and community members and recognize our union, our Board is trying to union bust ([here's an email we sent out to supporters](https://mailchi.mp/2639ff8e740d/the-es-union-needs-your-support)). Even more unfortunate, Blackstone is in a pretty bad spot—all the mechanics have been fired or left within the past few months, so all the solidarity we can get is really really appreciated.
You can read more about our efforts at esunion.org and follow us on instagram, twitter, and facebook! We'd love to have the support of our bike collective partners in getting the word out, helping us build community support, and pressuring our board to do the right thing. You can find ways to support at esunion.org/#support.
Love and Solidarity,
J. Michael
Hey folks,
Please take a look at this amazing opportunity
<https://www.londoncyclelink.ca/news/executive-director-2021> to lead
London Cycle Link, a member-supported not-for-profit dedicated to helping
Londoners ride more. We host events, teach cycling skills, launch advocacy
campaigns and operate a community bike shop (Squeaky Wheel Bike Co-op) to
achieve our goals.
I've been in this role for two and a half years and have thoroughly enjoyed
the work and the people involved and am now moving into a municipal cycling
role.
The Executive Director will lead London Cycle Link’s operations and play a
key role in shaping the cycling culture in London, Ontario.
The Executive Director is responsible for implementing the organization’s
strategic plan and for overseeing all programs and administrative duties.
This role is highly collaborative—reporting directly to the Board of

The Silicon ValleyBicycle Exchange is led by an unelected board. A steering
committee meets periodically and provides input to the board.
Hiya pals, we're thinking of putting together an intensive for some core
volunteers we're gearing up for public programming in spring. The folk in
question average very low mechanical skills, and many are fairly new to
each other. (1) Do you have activities / syllabi / suggestions for
mechanical crash-course stuff that's good for this scenario? (2) Do you
have activities / suggestions / prompts for the more camp counselor style
parts of this -- either in the metaphoric "trust falls" realm, or in terms
of building a collective social analysis, or in terms of establishing great
practices for volunteers in the space. (Yes, we'll do the banana game,
which I love.)

Hi pals, I wanted to share the Op-Ed of mine that's running in
StreetsblogNYC today: How the ‘Budget-Bike Trap’ Creates Inequality in NYC
<https://nyc.streetsblog.org/2021/03/24/opinion-how-the-budget-bike-trap-cre…>.
It's an important story that applies to the work all of us do, yet it's an
overlooked and misunderstood part of our bike equity crisis.
- Please give it a read (it's short, op-ed length) and let me know what
you think. I'm confident it's going to resonate with what you've
experienced in your work.
- Please share over your networks: here's a Twitter thread
<https://twitter.com/bikecoopnyc/status/1374728405070065664> you can
retweet, and a Facebook post
<https://www.facebook.com/jbisker/posts/10100894832944444> to repost.
(IG to come later @bikecoopnyc <http://instagram.com/bikecoopnyc>)
- This StreetsblogNYC piece is an intro to this issue, and I have a more
detailed ~2000-word article ready to go that examines it more closely (it
also includes perspectives from bike shop owners and budget bike buyers).
If you have a connection to a good place for publishing this piece, please
get in touch.
- If you've got an in with an organization that's working on a
discussion series or panel about bike equity, I'd love to bring this
perspective to it—keep me in mind.
Enjoy the springing spring, everyone.
Josh
